You can connect a PS4 device to your Mac computer over a wired or wireless connection. For connecting your device wirelessly to Mac, you can use Bluetooth. Connect PS4 to your Mac using a USB cable for a direct-wired connection.

Method 1: Wireless connection

Follow the steps given below to will help you to guide how to connect PS4 device to Mac computer wirelessly.

  • Click the Bluetooth icon present on the top menu bar on your Mac computer.
  • Select the Open Bluetooth Preferences option from the list.
  • Click on the “Turn Bluetooth On” button to switch on Bluetooth connectivity.
  • On your PS4 device, press and hold the Play Station and Share buttons together to turn on Discovery mode.
  • Hold the buttons till the light on top of the device starts flashing.
  • The PS4 device starts searching for the Bluetooth devices near to it and gets connected to your Mac computer.
  • When the light flashes on PS4, your Mac computer recognizes the PS4 device.
  • Click on the Pair button beside the Wireless Controller section.
  • Once the PS4 device gets paired with your Mac computer, the light on the PS4 device stops flashing and remains continuously lit.
  • You will get a confirmation message when the device is successfully paired.
  • To check if the device is connected correctly, click the Emu icon in the Dock.
  • Open any gaming application and click the Open Emu tab on the top menu bar. 
  • Select the Preferences option from the list, press the buttons on the PS4 device, and check whether it is highlighted in the Controls window.

Method 2: Wired connection

Proceed with the steps given below to connect your Mac computer and PS4 device via a wired connection. The wired method is the most preferred one to avoid connection errors.

  • Use a USB cable to connect your Mac computer and PS4 device. You can use the cable that came with your device or any other USB cables which are compatible with the device.
  • Connect the USB cable on the rear side of the PS4 device to the micro USB port.
  • Plug in the other end to your Mac computer in the USB port.
  • Go to the Apple menu and select the About this Mac option from the list.
  • Click System Report and choose the USB option.
  • Click the Steam icon on the Dock and select the Controller icon, which represents Big Picture Mode.
  • Go to Settings and select Controller Settings under the Controller section.
  • On the left panel, checkmark the PS4 Configuration Support option.
  • Select the PlayStation 4 Controller device under the Detected Controllers section. Then, click on the Identify button.
  • Check whether your PS4 device vibrates when you click the Identify button.
  • Select the Preferences tab to change the name, preferences, and change the light color. Then, click Submit.
  • You can start playing your favorite game by exiting the Big picture Mode screen.
