When you are trying to join a Wi-Fi network from your Mac device, you may receive the “A connection timeout occurred” error message. When the error occurs, your Mac device fails to connect to the network. Proceed with the steps given below to fix the “Connection Timeout Error Mac” occurring on your devices.

  • Step 1:If the receive the Connection Timeout error, first restart your router.
  • Step 2:Click the Wi-Fi icon on the top menu bar and select the Turn Wi-Fi Off option from the displayed list.
  • Step 3:Remove any USB drives connected to your Mac device.
  • Step 4:If you are using Mac OS X, create a new folder next to the Finder icon on the Dock. Name the folder as Backup Wi-Fi files or anything as you prefer.
  • Step 5:Copy the folder to your desktop or any location which is easy to access.
  • Step 6:Launch the Finder window and press the Command+Shift+G buttons together.
  • Step 7:In the Go to Folder window, enter the following path /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/. Then, click the Go button.
  • Step 8:Open the Wi-Fi settings folder on your Mac device.
  • Step 9:Copy the following files on the directory.
  • Step 10:com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
  • Step 11:com.apple.airport.preferences.plist-new
  • Step 12:com.apple.network.identification.plist
  • Step 13:NetworkInterfaces.plist
  • Step 14:preferences.plist
  • Step 15:Now, paste them to the new Backup files folder you have created.
  • Step 16:Now, delete all the selected Wi-Fi files by moving them to the Trash folder.
  • Step 17:Click the Apple icon on the top-left corner of the homescreen.
  • Step 18:Select the Restart option from the displayed list.
  • Step 19:When the Mac device restarts, select the System Preferences option from the Apple menu.
  • Step 20:Click the Network icon and select the Network Preferences option from the Wi-Fi menu.
  • Step 21:Select the Wi-Fi option from the menu bar and turn Wi-Fi On.
  • Step 22:Go to the Locations section and select Edit Locations.
  • Step 23:Click the “+” icon and create a new network location by giving a name. Then, click Done.
  • Step 24:Now, select your network name from the list and enter the password of the network to get connected to it. 
  • Step 25:Click the Apply button and close the Network window.
  • Step 26:Now, Connection Timeout Error Mac device will be connected to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Step 27:Once the connection is established, you can connect your USB drives back to the Mac device.
